  • Route 2 Bridge - Vehicular Road Bridge, 500m long
  • Route 3 Bridge – Vehicular Road Bridge 750m long
  • Marine Deck 450m long at Tuas View Basin

This project involved the design and build of two road bridges over the canal at Tuas Power Station to access a planned integrated waste management facility and the proposed Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (TWRP).

McConnell Dowell's scope included:

  • Route 2 Bridge -  a 500 m long vehicular access bridge
  • Route 3 Bridge – a 750 m long vehicular access bridge
  • Marine Deck at Tuas View Basin -  450m long
  • Ground Improvement works -1.8 million m3 of ground improvement works on the Tuas View Basin, needed to facilitate the bridge construction
  • General roadworks

The greatest challenge for the project team was constructing the bridge over the canal without encroaching into the operational power station. To achieve this, a bridge with a 70-metre-long span to was designed, one of the longest single spans in Singapore.

With the constrained space on site, it has been essential to refine the structural designs and the heavy lifting criteria to mitigate the risks involved.

To construct the bridge, seven 50 metre long U-beams, each weighing 270 tonnes, were precast at MCD’s own pre-cast yard and transported to site.
